I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

I once did a tree identification course at Wits, that was fun.
In China I loved the fact thyere were trees, a lot like the trees in other countries, but with fairly subtle differences, making me feel the world is ONE. and of course several very old trees, treated as the Chinese do, with reverence and support, beautiful in their fragility.

I suppose something like people the world over, they may have some physical differences, but they are essentially the same?

Eyes are fabulous, Denise. I remember the Jacaranda trees when I was in Pretoria. What a fantastic colour they were.

Yes, they are, John. At one stage they wanted to get rid of all our Jacaranda trees as they are aliens and apparently very thirsty plants. What a pity that would have been! Btw, there don’t seem to be any in this area, but there was a gorgeous one where I used to live.

Great tree pics! I am not too impressed with that species at the moment – they have crept over a large chunk of our landscaping and I have been spending hours with a chainsaw to uncover them.

I agree one has to be careful where they are planted. I had a really beautiful tree inside the corner of my property and we had to keep sawing branches off because they were destroying the garden wall. 😦

When we moved into our house I cut a branch off the tree near the house (recently pictured) and stuck it in the ground on the front boundary. It now stretches across both lanes of the road!

Isn’t that just what happens… They know where they are happiest, and if they can provide huge shade, so much the better!

Me too, Hope. Trees make such a difference to the way an area presents itself. I couldn’t live in an area bare of trees.

Lovely . . . as much as I love sun, I wouldn’t wish to be without the shade of wide canopies. Thanks, Denise.

Lovely Denise… I face a river which I love, but there are a few trees as well to shade the summer sun.
