The Tree
You stand there naked on the hill
Like an appointed sentinel,
Bereft of all your summer glory,
Your limbs outstretched against the sky,
and silently watch the world go by.
Do you shiver in the chill?
Do you utter the smallest sound
When the frost blankets the ground
And the snow begins to thaw –
Do your roots get cold and sore?
Do you long for the return of spring,
For sunny days and balmy nights,
When children climb your leafy boughs
And raucous rooks perch way up high
To view the landscape beneath the sky?

Almost seems like we have 1and 1/2 moons in first picture. Has the solar system changed since I was in 7th grade science ?

I also puzzled over it, Carl. Weird, but what with all the lenses and gadgets nowadays…

Thanks, Shane. Yes not long to go to spring. I love these crisp winter days, except for when the icy cold wind blows…

I always think of trees as being friendly… and sometimes almost as if they watch over us…

Water holds intelligence . . . when we send it loving messages, it thrives. When we send it angry thoughts, it turns dank and dark.
Trees and plants are full of water . . .
They respond to our love and attention.
And I’m sure that tree loves this poem! 😀

Trees always inspire me in their naked state. Something about the exposure reminds me of being human. Nicely done!

I like to think that trees partly hibernate in winter and sleep, dreaming of spring. Beautiful observations.
