I write what I feel…

Look towards the Future

Nostalgia

It’s no good living in the past,
With selective memories
Pleasantly seducing
The feelings in your head,
Because the past is dead.

By remembering the good
And eradicating the bad,
The dreams are false,
The past is lost,
It has gone to waste.

You have no choice
But listen to the voice
Coming from your heart –
The past will drag you down
And watch while you drown.

The future has everything
You need to start again,
To generate fresh dreams
And help you to revive
The potential of your life.

    • Oh, Amanda, thank you for your nice comment. I have to remind myself often because I backslide too! THERE IS NO FUTURE IN THE PAST!!! 😀 (Damn, I should have put that in the poem, lol)

  3. i think there is a healthy amount of looking back one can do, but it is sure easier to stumble when you step forward and are not watching where you are going..

    • Yes, I think to find out where/how things went wrong, OK, but not to hang on to it at the expense of making a new life… which is all too easy to do. 🙂

  5. What a lovely poem to read out loud and remember ever after. So true, what you say. I speak from experience, having lived in the past for many years. 😉

How true this is. The mind does not let one forget. Thanks for a beautiful poem with a positive message.
