CITY LIFE

hub of wheeling dealing
life blood rushing gushing
pumping breathing
filthy fumes that clot the air
radiation infiltration
contamination penetration
permeation
vaccines to overtake
plague pandemic pestilence
outbreak

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

    I avoid cities . . . like the plague! 😀

I lived within an hour of NYC for most of my childhood and rarely went in ~ too much hustle and bustle for me.

    • I can understand some people preferring the throb, hubbub and vibe of the city. I did too when I moved up here, but it was short-lived… Rushing through life is not for me, Barb.

  8. This is gritty and real. It is what city life is. The wheeling and dealing image is a great one. One of your best!

  9. I love cities as much as I love the peace of the country, Adeeyoyo, but they both have their dark sides and you have captured the cities’ and their dirty energy adeptly here

    • I think that I’ve reached the stage where country life appeals to me more, Bb. When I was younger I probably would have been bored to tears, but now I’ve grown to be happy in myself.
