Eternity

Pondering on Eternity

For now and for eternity:
Is ‘now ’a part of ‘eternity’,
Or is ‘eternity’ the future?
What about the past?
Or is ‘eternity’ the whole of existence:
Past, present and future?

Are we living in eternity, infinity, perpetuity,
At the present time?
Or does ’eternity’ only kick in after we die?
Are we only living on the brink of ‘eternity’?
~~

Eternity

We In the present

Cannot see the future

Except in a silver sliver

Of time

Sparks of life

Like stars in the sky

Or Christmas lights

Twinkle on and off

In the sea of eternity

  1. Interesting thoughts and questions, adee. I think eternity is a timelessness which we as mere mortals cannot fathom.

  4. Given the title, “From Here to Eternity,” I’d say that we are Here and it is Now and “Eternity” is somewhere out there.

    Or not.

  8. I have sometimes experienced eternity, I thought. Of course,by the time it occurred to me to wonder if this might be eternity, I had leaped out again. 😉
… I think maybe it’s a state more than anything – not a state of mind, but, hmm… out of mind? (But what do I know?) 😀

    • I understand only too well and, when it happens, I wish I could hold on to it! Your ‘out of mind’ is the closest I have come to a description of it. A sort of ‘different’ state of consciousness – a oneness with the universe.. I have been able to write some poetry when in that state, but sometimes only bits and pieces.
